Intention Not Outcome Should Serve As Your Guide

There are impassable paths without a helping hand it is our chance to hold out an empathizing hand.

FORTUNE IS A REBEL
The mind defaults to require compliance with its expectations. Under the guise of self-worth, self-respect or boundaries the mind will make its own conclusions. Its pervasive self-talk will replay conversations, narrate outside events and tell you what another’s intentions are.
This is a symptom of the reactive eye I spoke of before.
Without consultation of others where the mind seeks understanding to properly interpret an action one can find oneself out to sea when they meant to traverse land. Worse, one can conclude a completely fictitious conclusion and live in that false reality.
Typically, ego will falsely tell the person they were right. I find ego is a bad comforter. In truth, no one can control our external factors. What wisdom teaches is we plan, plan some more and then execute our plan only to discover fortune does whatever she wants anyways.
UNCONTROLLABLE EXPECTATIONS
Begin by asking what is within your control. This is not pointless exercise. When a problem surfaces you must begin by asking what, “What can I do?” This seems simple but it can be complicated if we deceive ourselves into thinking we control things we do not.
For instance, if we think we can pay someone — we might not be able to if the bank declines our card. If we have cash in our hands — we can pay someone.
Under the guise of self-worth, self-respect or boundaries the mind will make its own conclusions.
This simple oversight is what leads people to boundless frustrations. We forget the inherent dependency which persists in our society. So much of it is based on assumptions and reliance.
Basic items like turning on your water faucet are not within your control. Your water faucet relies on an untold number of variables. They range from billing department personnel properly accounting for your payments to water line workers properly servicing your line.
Learn to remove your personal obligation to control uncontrollable expectations from your life. You will find yourself much more content. Content will lead to peace of mind which I can all but assure you will drastically reduce your stress levels.
PROBLEMS ARE PROBABLY YOUR BEST OPPORTUNITY
This may sound strange but at the moments your problems surface you are given opportunities. It takes no effort or skill to react. Children react all the time. Take a child’s toy watch them get angry. Take a dog’s food watch them snap.
First, never adopt behavior a child is capable of nor an animal.
This is not the person you want to be. You are more mature than a child. You are not an animal. Do not behave like either.
Typically, ego will falsely tell the person they were right.
A more mature mind realizes a problem presents itself as an opportunity to respond. A response is a calculated action which is purposeful. There is intention behind the action of a response. A stated goal. A firm decision based on a simple question, “What is it that I want?”
In my personal experience you will often discover the reaction you are impulsively feeling will not yield you what you actually want.
Worse, you may allow your feelings to conclude a flawed conclusion which results in treating someone improperly before discovering all the facts. Everyone is guilty of apologizing after the fact because we “Didn’t Know Everything”. I am too.
An example of this is getting angry because you received a call from your child’s school they were late for school, scolding them initially when you text them, and finding out they were late because they woke up with a fever.
Reactions often cause regret. Never forget this.
A problem is an opportunity for you to practice pause so you can assess your ability to respond. Do not behave like a child reacting through temper tantrum. Do not be a dog reacting to bite its master at risk of never getting another meal.
You are better than that. You can be wise. Practice the wisdom of response.
INTENTION AN INCONVIENENT PAST
Outside people will rarely consider intention when interpreting actions. I remarked about this in my previous article. In this article I discussed how feelings are real, but they could possibly be incorrect.
It takes no effort or skill to react. Children react all the time. Take a child’s toy watch them get angry.
Often, we feel strong compulsive feelings. They are feelings of fear, anxiety or sometimes positive such as happiness. The feelings rush through our bodies. There is purpose for these feelings. Feelings are well documented in biology. Historically most emotions served to keep us alive. We lived in a very volatile environment for most of human history. The whole hunter gatherer thing. Often a person was required to try and predict the future based on their gut feeling alone. (2)
Arguably we live in the safest environment in human history. We have a death rate due to violence of 1 per 100,000 deaths. (3) We have access to cameras to see if the sound outside is a potential intruder. Fifty years ago, strange sounds had to be investigated by a man with a weapon going outside to check. No longer the case. This simple reality is why women now feel safe living alone in a house. They can call 9–1–1, look at cameras for strange sounds and own a gun to kill someone without getting close to them.
Despite our reality change many of us still search for the perceived threat our ancestors did. No longer is the tiger hiding in the grass. The snake is absent from the drains around our houses. Odd sounds are not automatically threats they might just be the air conditioner rattling.
If we cannot find the tiger, the snake or the burglar we will find something else. It is my opinion that this is why the mind defaults to assume bad things about the actions of others without putting effort into understanding why another does what they do.
TODAY INTENTIONS ARE EVERYTHING
In a world of the past, intentions meant little. Situations often meant life and death. If you didn’t marry the person you were told to marry, a war might break out between two families. The person you were meant to marry might kill your father.
Reactions often cause regret. Never forget this.
This logic no longer applies. As such our impulsive feelings of fear, anxiety and reluctance no longer serve as ultimate authorities when making decisions. This also includes happiness. Positive feelings can impulsively get us into tricky situations as well.
Today we must pause to understand our feelings. It is our job to ensure our feelings do not decide our actions. They simply alert us to pay attention. It is our job to investigate the intention if the situation is not a life-or-death situation.
Only in life-or-death situations do gut feelings tend to be accurate. That is what they were originally designed for. Most situations in our lives are not life and death.
Now I am the ultimate authority on what not to do. My much-anticipated new book “Turning Indictments To Dollars” talks about how to avoid the pitfalls I suffered. If you are accused of something you know you didn’t do — this book will offer you the path which grants you success. The concept I teach in this article is free. Some of my personal stories are not free of charge as everything costs something. The intention of something matters. It is my intention to show you how to properly evaluate another’s actions by responding. Respond with diligence to persevere through your impulses. You are more than a gut feeling or a fleeting emotional state. You are a rational person capable of humbling yourself to understand your feeling might be wrong.
